Join the Sarah Siddons Society for a full day bus trip on Friday, May 26** for the opening of an exhibit of our incredible Betty Rodgers photographs at the summer retreat of Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne, Ten Chimneys, in Genesee Depot, Wisconsin. These photographs of early Sarah Siddons Society Award winners beginning with Helen Hayes, a frequent summer house guest will include interesting histories of our award winners as related to the Lunts and Ten Chimneys.
We will depart downtown Chicago at 8:00 am with additional pick up stops in Lincoln Park, and the Old Orchard shopping center. [Select pick up location upon checkout] A Continental Breakfast with coffee and tea will be available on board.
There will be a stop for an early soup and salad lunch at the Delafield Hotel in Delafield, Wisconsin. Our next stop will be Ten Chimneys, where we will have a docent lead 2 hour tour of the estate, both inside and outside, learning about Broadway's most famous acting couple and their equally famous summer houseguests. Please wear comfortable shoes and have the ability to walk up and down stairs. Later in the afternoon we will attend the opening of the exhibit, followed by a reception.
We will depart for Chicago around 5:30 pm and should arrive downtown about 8:00 pm with prior stops at Old Orchard and Lincoln Park. Snack boxes will be provided for our trip back.
Cost is $145 per person includes bus transportation, snacks on the bus, lunch, docent lead tour, exhibit opening and reception.
**The state of Wisconsin officially recognizes May 26th of every year as Ten Chimneys Day, paying tribute to the historic significance of Ten Chimneys and the ongoing impact of Ten Chimneys Foundation. The day celebrates the anniversary of the marriage of Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne (1922), the anniversary of Ten Chimneys' opening to the public (2003), and the anniversary of Ten Chimneys' dedication as a National Historic Landmark (2004).
